After a long time of no updates at all a nice bunch of tracks have been added to the GTRank database! F1 tracks like Bahrain and Sepang, A1GP tracks like Laguna and even MotoGP ones! :D You can download them here @ Tyfdesk.com In case of major errors please give me a shout on GTR@Tyfdesk.com

Enjoy Eric G 2005-09-06

Dave Purdy added some new tracks among which are Searspoint, Suzuka and a couple of Watkins. Eric G added them to the Track list page and Uwe Schürkamp is already popular enough, so doesn't get a nice link to add him to your favorite buddy list! ;)
2005-08-05
A new poll is up. The Poll results page was improved to show the results of previous GTRank polls. New tracks added: SRW05Imola and Sachsenring.
2005-07-26
Road Atlanta has been added to the track list. Thanks to ZZ Busch for pointing out this excellent track to us. Also thanks to Julian von Wirth for providing three new banners for GTRank. Enjoy!
2005-07-19
Bernd Nowak has joined the admin team and decided to do something about GTRank's web design (if you want to call it that), resulting in the nice new left navigation menu. Thanks much for your work & welcome on the team, Bernd!
2005-07-09
New poll is up; "1994IMOLA" has been added to the track database.
2005-06-11
GTRank now features a very rudimentary voting system. Please make sure to select a choice before clicking the "vote" button! If you have anything you'd like to see the GTRank community vote on, please send email.

You can now view your laptimes by car for all tracks (classic and addon) from the "My Handicaps" page. Hope you like this new feature. The "My Handicaps" page also now displays the addon car handicaps, please let me know if you find any side effects that might be caused by this.
2005-05-19
The Seat Toledo GT is now classed as "NGT" instead of GT as many people have requested. Please inform me of any side effects this might have on the rest of GTRank. Also, the Superspeedway "OvalSS" from the "Kinf of Ovals" addon has been added to the tracks list. The others will follow in due time.

2005/05/16

Handicap History graphs have been implemented. Please check out this page and let me know if things don't work.

2005/05/06

Looks like vanwall was rebooted and the /tmp directory cleared which stores the career.blt files. As a result, uploading laptimes would not work. I hope the error has been fixed, but all the backup career.blt files have gone, too. I'm in touch with Brian to see if we can recover them somehow, but for a while the "restore my career.blt" file is bound not to work.
2005/05/01

GTR Patch 1.4 has been released. For now it seems that it doesn't break GTRank in any way, so download, patch and enjoy. Please let me know if you come across any problems that might be related to the new patch.

2005/04/30

As some people were having issues with GTRank requiring a login for the viewOtherLaptimes page, I have now created a page to be used specifically in forum sigs which does not require a login. Please visit the "My Banner" page to find out the URL to use if you want to link back to your laptimes on GTRank.

2005/04/29

IMPORTANT: only Simulation mode laps will be taken into account for class handicaps from now on. Please re-upload your laptimes and check if everything is ok.

2005/04/28

The April issue of AutoSimSport features a lengthy interview with yours truly in which you might be interested. Thanks to Smokin Bob and his crew for the best publication in existence for simracers!

2005/04/27
Looks like I borked something while creating the mmh banner thingy, please try to upload again if you got some weird mysql.notsupported error over the last 24 hours. Thanks for your patience!
2005/04/26
MegaMonster: The banner will now display your megamonster handicap.

Zolder added: Zolder has been added to the track list, using the 2005 BelCar series quali times as a benchmark (Porsche GT3 RS / Viper).

2005/04/08
Addon handicaps are here. Handicaps for the "addon" cars are now being calculated during the upload and stored in the database (Mosler, Vertigo, Seat and so on, basically all the cars from the Proximus Spa 24h update). Please let me know if there are any errors or conflicts with the rest of GTRank.

Cheers, uwe

a new admin script is under development that should make adding new tracks to GTRank much easier, so if you have any favourite tracks you would like to see in GTRank please send us email with the following information:

  • Track name exactly as it appears in your career.blt
  • NGT handicap in floating point format (e.g.: 1 min 23.223 secs becomes 83.223)
  • GT handicap as above

A google search for the track might come up with some real life FIA GT or equivalent quali times which should make a good benchmark. I added "2003_LAGUNA" a second ago, so if you have decent benchmark times please let us know!

Update: I just added Road America, using the 2004 ALMS warmup times as a basis (C5R and GT3 RS).

2005/03/24

Still knocking on wood, but one might say that the move is complete or at least nearing completion.

Also, gtrank now has a new URL (no worries, the "old" one will continue to work for the foreeable future) and is now also available at

http://gtr.gplrank.info/.

Please try the new URL and let me know if you experience any problems at the new address.

2005/03/18

GTRank and friends will be moving servers this weekend. I plan to have everything back up by Sunday. Meanwhile, thanks for your patience!

update: Things are looking good! GTRank is back in "production", much earlier than I had hoped. Please send mail if you come across any strange errors; banner creation was out of service for a while, so if your banner is blank with just the car showing, re-upload your laptimes and make sure to hit "shift-reload" in your browser window to force a banner reload.

Double lap times / handicap problems Some people have reported double laptimes ending up in the database, wreaking havoc on the handicap calculations. This is a known problem, and I am working on a fix. Meanwhile, thanks for your patience and make sure to complain loudly to simbin about breaking your favourite gtr ranking site ;-)
2005/03/08
the 1.3 patch has added some garbage to the team / car names, and I've added a hotfix that strips it from the car names so that gtrank will recognize them again. Please let me know of any strange "unknown car" errors you might come across during the upload process.
2005/02/27
A script is now available that shows what lap / car combinations you are missing in order to achieve a monster handicap ranking. Check the Monster Handicap section to find out more!
2005/02/26
The GTRank banner now contains your monster handicap if available, otherwise the number of missing laptimes is diplayed prominently, showing the world what a cheap excuse of an endurance FIA GT driver you are ;-) So get your bum into the seat of those lovely, neglected cars you never drive and show us what you're made of: Complete your Monster Handicap today! (or tomorrow, depending how how many laps you have left ;-)
2005/02/12
GTRank now creates a banner for use in signatures or on your website when you submit your laptimes. Check the "My Banner" page for details!

2005/01/22

Driver Search has been implemented: you can now add and remove people from your buddy list from the search result view.
2005/01/16
line problems As you've probably noticed, blw.net's internet connectivity is a bit flaky at the moment. Thanks for your patience while Brian's provider is trying to sort thing out.
2005/01/15
As we've received numerous inquiries wether GTRank can be used to recover your career.blt file *after* uploading, GTRank now keeps a backup copy of your most recently uploaded career.blt file. See the "restore Career.blt" page for more information.

Also, some bugs in the Monster handicaps page have been fixed.

2005/01/14
Thanks to Mark Aisthorpe, we now have the SimBin reference times online, too. Just add the driver "Simbin Benchmark" to your buddy list and you'll be able to compare your times to the benchmark times provided by Simbin in most of GTRank's categories. Thanks again for your help, Mark!
2005/01/09
The Nations Cup has been implemented. At least three drivers need to register a handicap (GT or NGT) in order for a nation to get a ranking. Handicaps over 300 seconds will not be taken into account.

From now on, the GMail star ("") will mark new items and features on GTRank.

2005/01/08
Thanks to Glen Van Winkle for creating some nice page headers which will be displayed in a random order in the various sections of GTRank. You can still blame the page layout on me, though ;-)
2005/01/07
The Nordschleife has been added to the database. I took the freedom to provide the reference times myself, so you'll probably find they suck.
2005/01/02
Addon track support is here. Please upload your spa-variation lap times and let me know if anything nasty or unexpected happens. Please note that warp detection for the addon-tracks isn't implemented yet, so be extra-careful to check the "my laps" page after upload so you can delete any warp laps you may find on the new tracks.

Happy new year, Uwe.

2004/12/30
Two new monster handicaps today: Anthony Michel and Falk Friedrich join that exclusive club. Welcome and well done!

PS: I'll stop counting now, five is enough ;-)

2004/12/27
I get a lot of inquiries about the "Missing" new tracks from the 1.2 addon. Yes, I know that they're there, and they will be supported in a couple of days I hope. support for addon tracks is a bit more complicated to implement than addon-cars, so hang in there while I try to work something out.
2004/12/26
Complete Parser rewrite As quite a few people were having problems uploading their laptimes after patching GTR to version 1.2, I've decided to completely rewrite the career.blt parsing code to be more fault tolerant and (hopefully) less buggy. Please upload your laptimes and get in touch about any errors or inconsistencies you may find. It works for me, but that doesn't mean it will work for the rest of the planet.
2004/12/25
A third driver recently completed his monster handicap: Richard Busch of "Screamers Racing League" fame. Great work ZZ! In other news, I've added the "addon"-cars to GTRank, I hope I've caught them all and got the classes right. If you note any omissions or errors please get in touch. Currently it's not possible to complete a car handicap in the addon cars.
2004/12/24
GPLRank problems: our sister site gplrank is currently having some problems, so at the moment creation of new accounts sadly isn't possible. We are working hard to resolve the problem. Merry christmas everyone!

Update: I have changed the create account link to point to nrank account creation page which apparently still works, so it should be possible again to create new rank accounts. Now off to download the proximus add-on ;-)

2004/12/22
Uwe Schürkamp (me) is the 2nd driver to ever complete a monster handicap. You thought you knew what endurance racing is all about? Well, show what you're made of and complete your monster handicap!
2004/12/21
A few people were having upload problems after installing new (unauthorized! ;-) cars and tracks, most notably "key errors" and the like. This should be fixed now, please confirm by trying to upload your times.
2004/12/19
Monster handicaps are here. Mark Aisthorpe is the first driver to have completed a monster handicap (having driven all classic cars on all classic tracks), so congrats for your endurance, Mark! I only have four cars left to go 8-P
2004/12/19
Back to back comparisons have been implemented. To compare your times to another driver, go the "class handicaps" page and click on the driver's handicap. The output still needs some work, but should give you a basic idea on which tracks the other driver is significantly faster than you.
2004/12/18
Car handicaps are here! (at least, partly ;-) Car handicaps are not yet stored in the database, but I plan to add this feature soon. For more information, read the note below your car handicap listing.

Update: Car handicaps are now stored in the database as you can see on the upload script output, but I'll still need to edit the view handicaps script so one can select the car in question. Have fun while completing all those handicaps in the meantime. Who'll be the first driver to have a MonsterRank, I wonder? ;-)

Update: You can now view handicaps by car using the "car handicaps" form.

For now, I'm the fastest Viper driver in the world, but I don't really expect it to last long ;-)
2004/12/17
Two little additions today: "My Buddy list" will show your buddy list. The "world records" page was changed to consider only laps driven in simulation mode. Thanks to Frank Bloem for pointing out semi-pro laps making it into the world records.
2004/12/11
Bugfix: GTRank now detects warp laps during the upload phase. If the laptime is faster by a certain amount than the current world record at that track for the car class in question, the lap will be ignored. Also, a "WARNING" message will tell you the line number of the time within your Career.blt file.
2004/12/04
Bugfix: Deleting a warp lap would not remove the associated (N)GT handicap, too. This has been fixed.
2004/11/29
The current top ten GT / NGT world records can now be viewed in the "World Records" section (one lap per driver only for now ;-) If you spot any obvious warps please use the "my laps" section to delete them.
2004/11/25
GTRank now keeps track of the total number of laps for your player. Right now, it's only visible in the "handicaps" section, but this feature will eventually make it into the rest of GTRank, too. If your column happens to be empty, simply re-submit your Career.blt file to GTRank.
2004/11/24
Handicaps (both GT and NGT) are now being stored in the database. You need to register lap times on all 10 "classic" tracks both in GT and NGT cars in order to receive a handicap for both classes. The "view Handicaps" stuff is still pre-alpha, so please report any bugs you may come across at the mail address given below.

If you spot obvious warp laps (like a sub 2:00 in Spa / GT class) after uploading your Career.blt file, please remove them using the "remove" link under "my laps".

2004/11/21
If you have been wondering what this "add / remove buddy" stuff was for, well check again under "view laptimes". Another reason to celebrate this fine Sunday: GTRank has reached the milestone of 5,000 laptimes in our database: Not bad for a "Germany only" release.
2004/11/20
Some minor additions only today as I'll be brewing 5 gallons of lovely christmas ale later today %-): You can now view another driver's laptimes from the "view laptimes" page by clicking on the name; also, some material was added to the GTRank FAQ section. Next on the list: selection by buddy list.
2004/11/19
The "my laptimes" page now calculates your time difference to the reference laptimes in both classes (GT and NGT). If you're below the handicap time it will be displayed in green; if you're above the handicap reference time, the time difference will show in red.

The reference times where taken from the example replay laps provided by SimBin in GTR.

2004/11/18
"My laps" now lets you view your own lap records in all cars on all tracks. Also T. Schlemo "joined the Ranks" as co-admin. A preliminarly handicap definition is to follow soon, using the lap times provided by the replays shipped with GTR. Next on the list is letting you view your own time difference to these reference laps in "my laps".
2004/11/16
Thanks to Roland Fuchs for pointing out an error (the 911GT2 was wrongly classed as "NGT").

Support for class selection (GT, NGT) has been added to the "view laptimes" page. Note that it doesn't make sense to select a GT car and view the NGT class, however ;-)

Also, the admin interface now displays the current NGT world records, so from now on I'll hopefully detect warp laps in NGT times, too. If you feel your lap time was deleted in error, please get back to us by email at the address given below. Thanks!

2004/11/15

Support for country selection has been added to GTRank, next on the list is selection by car class.
