I'm really pleased with todays win. The team didnt provide the fastest car out there but with all the lienz experience gave me a car stable enough to race all day. :)
Qualifying didnt go too well. i knew my setup wouldnt compete with
Hristo's pace, so I just tried to grab 2nd to give me a chance at
taking the lead into T1.
i was convinced i secured 2nd too, so I didnt do a 2nd run, but with a
few mins to go, Lars's popped a great time in and pipped me to it.
The race went well and after taking advantage of Lars's wheel spin at the start, i just tried to stay close enough to Hristo to keep
pressure on, but not risk any damage to the car.
Eventually it payed off and for one reason or another Hristo lost it somewhere in PA and I took control.
Not long after i saw Lars drop off my timing board, so i just coasted
to the end to secure the championship points.
Grats to the other podium finishers, was my fave race of the season so far. i love that mountain range! I'm not expecting much luck next time, monaco is prolly my worst date on the schedule.

The big question for me was not who was going to win this race, but by how much Hristo would mop the floor with us mere mortals for his comeback screamers race.
Qualifying confirmed my fears with Hristo running away with it, and I was a bit shocked to find myself in 7th and I thought "well, it looks like it's back to the middle of the Gauss curve with all the aliens around" ;-) I couldn't go any faster than 57.2xx in quali, and that sub 57 that had been eluding me for the last couple of weeks continued to do so during quali.
I decided to take it easy during the race, placing my bets on high attrition and the amount of traffic this track would provide. My start was another one in the "oh gawd, that sucked!" category, and Jo managed to slip by putting me into 8th, but then proceeded to crash into the nasty haybales at the top of the hill a couple of laps later.
That left Oli in front of me, and I managed the gap the best I could, so I wasn't too sad when I saw Andi losing the rear end in turn 2 which both put us up a notch.
Oli seemed to have a problem later on and I was able to overtake him exiting turn 2 a couple of laps later, from there on it was all cruising as I knew I'd be no match for Stacey, Hristo and Lars on the track, so all the additional spots I gained were welcome additions to the points tally.
I pitted after my 50 litres of fuel were nearly gone, only to find my over-eager mechanics changing the rear tyres which cost me another 20 seconds. New fronts would have been welcome, but the rears would have been good for another 45 laps ;-) Investigations are underway, but I suspect a highly frustrated Lars or Andy bribing them for the additional 20 secs that cost me. ;-) No harm done however as the gaps were large enough.
I'd never have hoped for 2nd (let alone a podium finish) in this highly contested race, but I won't refuse the glory, either. Congrats to Stacey for another comfortable win (just how he managed 0 incidents here at Lienz I'll never know, but I suspect illegal yet undetectable alien shield technology on his Beemer), and also to Andi for clawing his way back into 3rd after initial difficulties.
Good drive by Grimmi too, it goes to show how a race with few incidents can result in a good finishing position all by itself!

After a couple weeks of practice I felt happy with the car the team had given me for the race. My goal was to finish on the podium or at least go home with some points.
Started from 4th & made a good clean start taking 3rd spot from Lars into T1. Now it was a case of just pacing myself. I wasn't here to race Stacey or Hristo as their pace seemed to be that little bit better than mine.
Lars was starting to bite at my heals & I didn't want to go any faster & I didn't want to hand him 3rd. So lap by lap my plan was drop him into the hands of Oliver who was starting to catch us from 5th.
Going into T1 on lap 8 Lars made late lunge up the inside underbraking as I was turning into the apex, spinning out which cost me 3 places. This angered me resulting in more mistakes & time lost.
The Team came onto the radio telling me to calm down & to get back with the plan. After the pit stop all was well, the car had some fresh rubber & felt racy. I took back a few back a few places & with a few DNF's I was back up to 3rd.
Uwe was too far ahead to catch & I had a 20+ sec gap to the man in 4th. So I just drove the last remaining laps & brought the car home in 3rd. Big thanks to the Team & congrats to Stacey & Uwe for their strong drives.
