I had a good qualifying and managed to get clear road on my flying laps and post a decent time which was enough for pole position. I haven't actually practiced starts, so I was confused until I notice where the starting lights are and also the sound they make kinda creeped me out. Despite that I managed to keep Andrew behind on the run to T1 and lead out of it. After that I just tried to focus on not making any mistakes and as a result my laptimes suffered but it was still enough to pull away. Soon I was in a good rythm which I could hold on to until the end of the race, though as the tyres began to wear off it was a bit tricky. There were no problems with the backmarkers or the car.

Well, first I'd like to thank the team for giving me a very fast car. In the build up to the race weekend we were running as low as 16/16 wing & still posting easy 1:32's but as the race weekend drew closer, we switched to 31f/32 rear. Now the car was posting easy low 31's.
Qualifying went very well, posting a PB of 30.4 but still over a second off the pole time set by Hristo.
Made a clean start Hristo pulled away & I just drove some steady laps with Stacey biting at my heels every now & then. The next 10 or so laps went by with no dramas. I started to lap some back markers, then noticed Stacey had dropped out of the race. Then to my horror on lap 12 I got "pit in" signal from the team. I was a little confused as we had planned a no stopper, but thanks to some mix up in the garage I only had enough fuel for 20 laps!!!! The team told me not to worry as I had a nice gap to Uwe in 3rd. But at this stage I lost my cool & lost the car exiting the swimming pool. No damage to the car but lost a good 12 seconds only giving me a 9 second gap to Uwe.
After pitting for fuel & fresh rubber I found myself in 3rd place & 5 seconds behind Uwe with 8 laps to go. Now was the time to get my head into gear. Ok thanks to a mix-up, I now had a car with 20 laps of fuel but with fresh rubber & Uwe had a light car with old rubber... Time for a race. The first couple of laps were painful as the tyres were cold & I didn't seem to take much out of Uwe, but before to long the gap started to fall & with just 2 laps to go I was eating Uwe's gearbox. I was surprised when he let me by as I was expecting more of a fight. I think if Uwe knew that I had a heavy car he might have made his car a little wider??? Anyway good result for the team & congrats to Hristo & Uwe. Merry xmas to all screamers & will see you all for some winter sun down in South Africa.

My qualifying was so-so as I had had some hopes for my first ever sub 1:32 given all the extra adranaline a live Screamers quali session sets free.
My laptime was ok though, and fourth spot was what I could hope for given Lars surprising absence, and I was quite happy that Jo hadn't managed to bump me into fifth on the last laps of his run.
The start was uneventful and one of my better performance and I was able to thread through St. Devote without any problems. The top three instantly pulled away (Hristo, Stacey and Andy at the time) and I knew I'd be no match for them, so I tried to focus on managing the gap to Jo which came down to 2 seconds or less at times, and I constantly had to remind me of the fact that the slower you go at Monaco, the faster you are.
I had a bit of a scary moment lapping Eldi which was totally m fault as I was eager to get by, a good lesson in how to not lap somebody into Casino was learned there.
Then Stacey dropped out for an unknown reason which put me into 3rd which I'd be more than happy with, and I had an 8 second lead on Jo which also seemed like a secure gap provided I kept my head on straight.
With about 8 laps to go, I suddenly found myself in 2nd which meant that Andi had gambled on a one stopper, and I when I heard him pull out of the pits I was 5 seconds in front. Given his quali and race speed I knew I'd be no match for him a in a fight for positions, so he reeled me in nicely and with two laps to go, I decided to let him by on the exit from St. Devote. I was afraid that a fight for 2nd could put us both into the walls, and my race was with Jo the entire time and not with Andi. Had I known there there were only 2 laps left I might have tried some clever moves, but Andi rightfully deserved 2nd considering his blistering pace during the entire 2 weeks of praccy for this event.
One error per race seems the norm, and I spun it into the harbor chicane clipping the inside entry barrier on the very last lap which allowed Hristo to lap me (an event I'd much rather avoided to be honest), but the car was ok and I was able to cruise home in 3rd.
I'm looking forward to the 3 week break now, and esp. to racing at a venue that is a little less claustrophic than both Lienz and Monaco ;-)
Happy Holidays & a peaceful new year to all Screamers, see you all in 2009.
