It was a real interesting race for me and really exciting during the
pit cycle.
Again i went with comfort over speed and as a result the car was a
good 0.5s down on hristo as we went through pracy and qualifying.
A good start got me the lead but eventually hristo's pace got him a
good run on me going down the straight.
I gave him a good fight the once, taking the lead back on the outside
of T1, but when it happened again i let him go and tucked in behind to
save my rubber.
we then had a quiet spell as hristo pulled about 3ths a lap on me, but
i knew id have a good fast stop and that my downforce would help me
when we hit the traffic, so i was happy to keep the gap around 4 or
5s.
The pit stops then came and for once i went 1lap further than hristo,
which was enough to put the hammer down, and i came out of the pits 1s
ahead :D
The bad news was that oli and uwe were stopping late and were right in
front of me, and this is where the race really started for me.
I had a great fight with Uwe, who for the 2nd week had so much more
speed than me i had no chance to pass him where u would expect.
i knew where my car was fast though vs a low df set, so on the run up
to the tight turn 4 i took a late stab forcing uwe to the outside and
I got by, (my pass of the season imo)
Eventually oli and uwe pitted, leaving hristo and i 30s infront of the
pack, and on open track again hristo soon caught me again and flew by
on the back straight (again).
i considered racing him, but decided i had too much df to fight it out
today, so i would just keep the pressure on and be happy to take 2nd
place points.
Then i saw the incident unfold and two cars jumping sideways out of
the track.
I then started to think i had been gifted a win, but how wrong was 1.
firstly hristo had a great recovery, then i have my own drama
the very next lap, im coming around turn 8 to go up the hill, and I
see a car sat stranded (well off the track) on the steep banking.
To my utter horror, as I'm coming up the hill he just reveres down the
bank (accross the track) into my path and i get a huge whack to the
front end.
luckily for me i only lost about 6 or 7 seconds to hristo loosing
about 14 or 15, but again it put the pressure back.
i quickly looked at the clocks and worked out that hristo would have
5laps to pull in 5s. confident that he wasnt 1s/lap quicker i turned
off all my huds and just drove to the end.
I'm really pleased to still be unbeaten in the E21, but without alot
of luck with me today, i would not of taken it today.
thats racing though... :)
gra and grats to uwe for grabbin the final podium spot

What a great race that was, but unfortunately it had a bad end. Practice and Qualifying went well and though I couldn't get near my pb after making a mistake on my last lap which had the potential, the more important thing was the setup felt consistent over a longer distance. The changes I made kept the tyres perfectly equal front to rear as well as within proper temperatures.
Although I practiced a few starts in the pitlane it didn't work as good when the actual start was given as I kept it for too long in the high revs, perhaps misjudging other people's engines for my own, so Stacey went through and then I nearly put it into the wall going down at T3, but riding the bank wasn't as bad as I expected so I could keep 2nd infront of Oliver.
The next couple of laps were spent getting some temperature in the tyres as well as putting pressure on Stacey who (again) opted for more downforce which meant he was losing time in the 2nd half of the lap and that was enough to undo any advantage he had in the first half. Add to that the slipstream effect and I was soon close enough to make a move. That came as expected on the s/f straight and Stacey chose not to go to the inside to defend it so I was through.
I managed to break the tow back to him in a few laps and started pulling away but not by much. It soon became apparent that the fuel I put on might not be enough to reach the planned pitstop at half distance, so I added some preset amount for the mechanics to put in which would hopefully be enough for the 2nd half of the race.
The plan was to stop before any backmarkers were reached and that nearly worked if it wasn't for fuel going too low too early and for a car appearing on the horizon, so I made a decision to stop 2 laps earlier. Because I did just one practice pitstop before the race I approached it cautiously and braked early, this time going into Neutral on time to avoid stalling, then carefully positioned it on the spot. Doing all that probably made those 3 seconds or more of an advantage that I had over Stacey disappear, but at least the fiasco from Kyalami wasn't repeated.
Stacey went by and so did Oliver and Uwe! I guess I forgot to put them into the equation, thinking they would drop back enough for me to come ahead, but even though they were running more fuel that didn't happen and their closely fought out duel now continued to take place ahead of me.
Stacey made his pitstop on the next lap and it became apparent he did an excellent one as he rejoined the track about a second ahead, JUST behind Uwe who was trailing Oliver by another second or so. Thus the greatest part of the race had begun.
As expected, because fuel didn't make much difference to laptimes here, Stacey was soon all over Uwe, but Uwe's lack of downforce approach meant passing wasn't going to be easy. Defending from and battling with Stacey allowed me to close up on both of them very soon and we had some good bumper to bumper racing, but I didn't want to take big risks so had to back off on a couple of ocassions and let them decide it between themselves first.
Stacey eventually made his way through and now I had the worry of passing Uwe myself as I didn't want to let Stacey disappear into the distance. Luckily with my medium downforce approach and with the help of slipstream I could attack Uwe and at the same time Oliver had more than enough pace to make it difficult for Stacey up ahead.
The pass on Uwe came around the outside of T1 though I suspect he didn't want to take bigger risks as he backed off once we exited the corner side by side. Soon after that I closed up on Stacey and had a good run on the s/f straight, but this time he braked very late and managed to hold onto the outside line and keep his position! On the next lap I had another run and just as I pulled out of his slipstream to the right-hand side of the track Oliver was moving into the pitlane for his stop. This time I managed to brake a bit later and thus go ahead into the turn, so I was back in 1st.
The next few laps were spent being careful with the tyres and wondering over fuel, until we came up to lap Michael. Going through the uphill after the hairpin I was closing up on him and when we came to the fast right on top of the 2nd hill he decided to let me through by moving to the inside on the exit. I held onto my line but suddenly there was contact and my car flew over to the left and over the dune, going into the air and then landing on all 4. I managed to get back on the track as fast as I could but by the time I finished the lap Stacey was 11 seconds up ahead.
That went down to 8 seconds during the next lap which was probably down to Stacey having a problem of his own, but it didn't matter as there were 6 or 7 laps to go at the time. I decided to turn off all HUDs except revs and gears and just drive as fast as I can. It was only enough to reduce the gap to 5 seconds at the finish. Very disappointing...
Grats to Stacey, Uwe and Oliver, who surprised all including himself with his qualifying and race pace.

I guess this was one of the most intense races I've ever had in the Screamers. Starting from 4th, I managed to get by Oli in 3rd into Tarzan after the start, only to brake too late on the next lap at the same spot and "going off into the potatoes" as Grimmi put it so nicely, losing 3rd to Oli in the process.
Gritting my teeth I decided to settle into fourth, more or less focussing on the gap to 5th and six place where it looks like DaveP and Andi had a good tussle again. Oli never drew further away than two secs so I was rather confident I could beat him at the pit stop or that he might have to pit earlier than me, allowing me some free laps enough to take 3rd for good.
We had a great moment of Screamers Racing going side by side into Tarzan at lap 10, good racing by all involved with lots of leaving room and so on, but it wasn't enough for me to take the spot so I decided to follow Oli around some more.
About mid race, Stacey and Hristo pitted at the same lap putting both of them behind us for a couple of laps, but me being the more nervous type with cars big in my mirrors, I more or less waved both Stacey and Hristo through to allow them to chase Oli down, who after some stupid error of mine had a four second lead.
It looks like Oli messed up his pit stop a bit, so I managed to pull out 8 seconds ahead of him when I made my stop, however fuel was a problem which I had to manage as I had underestimated the amount needed to finish the race.
I managed to cross the line with 1 litre left in the tank with Oli six seconds behind, so I'd call this result a close shave indeed, might as well have gone to Oli who had a good speed and pace over the entire weekend.
